In sept this year my friend Margaret & I cycled the River Elbe in Germany from Dresden to Magdeburg, it is a very traditional German walking and cycling trip in summer with lots of ‘Bier Gartens’ along the river. Very enjoyable had good weather in Sept and cycling path was good and well sign posted and naturally quite flat.
It was about 360kms over 8 days with stops in Meissen Reisa Torgau Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Dessau Schoenbeck Magdeberg
Itinerary attached with details of each town along the way, all in the ‘old East’ GDR so was interesting to see how they have fared since reunification in 1990
The start at Dresden, an amazing city with the old part restored after the dreadfull fire bombing in WWll

Trip was booked with local operator Elbe Rad Touristik through local agent here Maggie Porter of Wanderweg Holidays
cheers

Hi Dave,
I noticed there was not much about camping in the report. Glad you had a great time.
Hopefully we can catchup when I get back from Asia.
Rob
No Rob none of this ‘roughing it’ mate………..I was wondering what the hotels in the old East GDR would be like but they were good, only 3 star but all with ensuite 🙂 cost less than $100 a day with breakfast, carrying bags forward each day, bike hire etc

Hi Dave
A few of my friends and I are thinking about doing a Elbe Radweg tour from Magdeburg to Prague. I am interested in reading your itinerary with details of the towns or villages you stopped at along the way but I cannot open the PDFs page or the page cannot be found. Can you please help? Many thanks.
Tony.
